WPM History
WPM has been an innovator in the graphic arts and converting industries since its formation in 1933, and continues in that role today. WPM developed and manufactured honeycomb cylinders for add-on color printing from the 1930's to the 50's; and rotary cutting and embossing systems in the 60's, including the world's largest rotary embossing unit. In the 70's, WPM manufactured the first intaglio web press for the production of bank notes and stock certificates. Also in the 70's, WPM began manufacturing web rotary die cutting units. WPM initiated this equipment and has sold over 90% of the North American inline installations. In 1982, WPM introduced the RotaCutterTM, a high speed rotary cutter which continues to be the only unit on the market today that allows for contour cutting. Later in the decade, WPM developed the ServoRotaCutterTM which provides "variable repeat" capability for cutting different lengths of converted products with one machine. Together, with other WPM innovations, such as MicroTouchTM knife adjustment, TruCutTM, TruLockTM, and AdvantEdgeTM knives and dies, WPM provides the best cutting systems in the business and has proven to be a specialist in advanced, high-speed rotary cutting technology.
New products and production capabilities have also occurred via the acquisitions of Alpha Graphic Machine (AGM) Inline/Offline systems in 1997 and MRG Techniques' manufacturing assets in 1998. These acquisitions have expanded WPM’s product offering, R&D capability and global footprint providing manufacturing and support centers in the U.S. and England. Today, WPM is the only Inline/Offline Finishing and Converting equipment manufacturer with this capability in more than one country.
From TruCutTM and AdvantEdgeTM knives and dies to Inline/Offline and Converting Systems, WPM products are designed and manufactured with the attention to quality that has earned WPM their reputation for building the finest systems throughout the world. WPM is also known for expert service. With the combined experience of its employees, WPM's knowledge base is unmatched in finishing, converting and cutting technology.
