Model: Revolution Rotary Cutter

The Revolution Rotary Cutter is the signature product of WPM’s ISD Series of finishing components incorporates a patented DDR (Direct Drive Rotary) motor mounted directly on the journal ends of the cylinders. The Revolution rotary cutter is a result of two years of research and development and the integration of a DDR motor that has been recognized by Electronic Products News Magazine Product of the Year and The Design News Magazine Best Products of 2005.

The Revolution Rotary Cutter boasts a complement of new designs and features that has captured the finishing industry’s attention. WPM has replaced all the high cost, maintenance laden parts on traditional cutters such as gear boxes, phasers, belts, pulleys, clutches, gears and shafts with two DDR motors directly connected to the journal ends of the knife and anvil cylinders. These high-tech motors use the journal ends as the motor armature, eliminating bearings, so they too are maintenance free. Maintenance costs are an important factor, but not the only reason WPM chose to pursue the technology. These motors are 50 times more accurate than conventional servo motors and provide the fastest, most accurate way of locating knife positions during the make-ready.

Combined with WPM’s new QuickLock knife system (patent applied for), we have reduced cutter make-ready to minutes, literally blowing away the competition’s traditional way of locating knives. A redesigned Electronic MicroTouch™ allows pushbutton control of on-the-run knife adjustments that maintain the .0001” adjustment, more than doubling the knife life of the competitive machines.

We’ve integrated all drive control cabinets into the guards of the cutter, virtually eliminating field wiring. This dramatically reduces the installation costs as a single power line is required and has no additional cabinets to locate and wire. It’s literally “plug-n-play” technology.

The Revolution incorporates WPM’s zero make-ready delivery table now equipped with vacuum assist. We’ve really focused attention on the delivery end of the cutter. By opening up access in the speed up section and allowing the products to get away from the cutting point naturally, WPM has eliminated the need for large, make-ready intensive, knock-down wheels and break assemblies. Adding vacuum to the lower belt in the first stage really drives the product out of the cutting point and away from trouble. This way we can transition the product into a stream naturally rather than force the product into a “hurry up and stop” position. The transition wheels are electronically timed to the product size, so the operators don’t spend time hanging brush segments.

WPM is changing the face of inline/offline finishing systems once again taking a leadership role in innovative ideas that provide true value to our customer base.
